The Victorian suicide prevention and response strategy 2024-34 guides the work of the Suicide Prevention and Response Office. It is a 10-year strategy that builds a systems-based, evidence-informed, whole-of-government and community-wide approach to suicide prevention.

All Victorians working together to reduce suicide.
Priorities
The strategy highlights six priority areas that need to be addressed to reduce the rate of suicide, support those impacted and stop the stigma that surrounds it, including:
- Building on and supporting connected systems.
- Building on and strengthening existing supports across the suicide prevention and response continuum.
- Building on and supporting a compassionate, trauma-informed workforce, strengthened by lived and living experience.
- Reducing suicide-related stigma and enabling community-wide action.
- Driving whole-of-government collaboration and innovation.
- Building on and using data and evidence in delivery and evaluation.
Enablers
The strategy includes principles that must be included in the actions and work of the Government, service providers and the community to prevent suicide. These include:

- Advance Aboriginal self-determination
- Apply an intersectional lens
- Be compassionate and trauma-informed
- Be person-centred and human rights–driven
- Be place-based and community-focused
- Be proactive and prevention-focused
- Be evidence-informed and accountable
