About suicide
If information on this page raises any issues for you or if you need immediate assistance, please contact a crisis service.
Suicide is a public health issue that affects individuals, families, workplaces and communities across Australia.
It is important to have accurate and up-to-date information about suicide to inform coordinated and consistent planning, policy and practice. Enabling access to information about suicide, resources and national strategies, supports suicide prevention activities undertaken across Australia. In turn, this will provide an opportunity to foster conversations that empower the community to help-seeking.
Life in Mind is funded as part of the National Suicide Prevention Leadership and Support Program and aims to increase knowledge sharing and build connections between organisations and communities working in suicide prevention across Australia.
The Life in Mind portal includes information about the factors that may increase the risk of suicide, as well as:
- warning signs that indicate a person may be considering suicide
- a range of programs and services available to organisations and the community
- what the evidence, data and research tells us about suicide prevention
- how to link policies with practice.
If you or someone you care about is experiencing personal distress or crisis, there are many ways you can get help
