Wear It Purple Day 2024

Posted 20th August 2024

Wear It Purple Day is an annual campaign dedicated to supporting LGBTQIA+ youth. On 30 August 2024, people across Australia wear purple to show LGBTIQA+ young people that they are celebrated, respected, and can be proud of who they are.

This year’s theme, "Your Passion, Your Pride" highlights the achievements of LGBTQIA+ people openly and visibly pursuing their dreams in sport, art, science, and more.

Wear It Purple was originally founded by students in response to stories of young LGBTQIA+ people taking their own lives due to bullying and harassment. Today, Wear It Purple Day has evolved into a movement of love and support, dedicated to showing young people that there is hope and that they are embraced and accepted for who they are.

For young people who identify as LGBTQIA+, the theme “Your Passion, Your Pride” is an empowering and affirming rally cry to express their true selves to the world and chase their dreams.
