By Dr Libby Flynn, Project Development Coordinator, Queensland Centre for Mental Health Learning
The Queensland Centre for Mental Health Learning (Learning Centre) provides suicide prevention skills training across Queensland Hospital and Health Services and has released a suite of educational videos to improve staff knowledge and skills.
The educational videos were developed after a 2022 training review by The Learning Centre showed the need for training that met the needs of a changing workforce, and was accessible and delivered in flexible formats.
To address this need, the Learning Centre developed an on-demand instructional video suite as part of a larger, newly released suicide prevention training package. All video content was reviewed by Everymind to ensure safe, accurate and sensitive representation of suicide in line with Mindframe guidelines.
The instructional video suite includes five short videos that provide an overview of the core suicide prevention models and approaches using a scenario of a young person, ‘Charlie’, to help contextualise the learning.
Although designed for staff working in clinical settings, The Learning Centre has made the video suite available to anybody interested in acquiring foundational knowledge about core suicide prevention models to support their clinical practice. The videos contain a range of suicide prevention information specific to clinical settings.
