Lived experience consultation for NSW Suicide Prevention Legislation

Posted 29th July 2024

Introducing suicide prevention legislation is a commitment of the NSW Government, with the Government currently seeking feedback on the legislation through consultation.

The aim of the NSW Suicide Prevention Legislation is to:

  • Embed the voices of people with lived and living experience of suicide in whole of government.
  • Enable cross-portfolio responsibility and accountability for suicide prevention in NSW.

Suicide Prevention Australia and First Nations Co. are undertaking consultation on behalf of the NSW Government to inform development of the legislation.

Lived experience consultation

Suicide Prevention Australia invites New South Wales residents, aged 18 years and above, with a lived experience of suicide to engage in an important paid consultation opportunity.

Consultations will inform potential inclusions in the draft suicide prevention legislation in NSW. This legislation aims to improve outcomes for individuals and their communities by creating shared accountability and clear responsibilities across all government agencies and structures.

The lived experience consultation sessions are co-facilitated by lived experience representatives where individuals can share their thoughts, experiences and suggestions.

Consultations are open until 18 August 2024.
