Life in Mind hosts national suicide data

Posted 26th September 2018

This morning the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)released the Causes of Death data for 2017, that includes preliminary suicide death data for 2017 and revised suicide data for 2016 Australia.

This release includes the latest suicide data for Australia and provides the suicide prevention sector and the general public with critical in-depth data and statistical information around suicide related deaths across the country.

To ensure these yearly complex and highly specific figures are interpreted correctly and reported to the public safely, Mindframe, a program of Everymind, works closely with the ABS to examine, contextualise and distill the data for use by media, stakeholders and government.

Following the launch of Life in Mind earlier this year, the national suicide prevention portal is now hosting some of the key data which has been analysed by the Mindframe team.

Everymind Suicide Prevention Project Lead, Amanda McAtamney said it was a responsibility which the organisation took seriously and with great consideration.

Mindframe has an enduring 20-year legacy of providing strategic leadership in the analysis, interpretation and contextualisation of the ABS Cause of Death Data," Ms McAtamney said.

"It is important to be able to to share this on Life in Mind so to inform the suicide prevention sector and community and build their capacity to have safe and accurate conversations."
