#FriendBetter with R U OK?: Tips to help support your mates

Posted 17th April 2023 in Sector news

A new campaign released by R U OK? is dedicated to helping young Australians aged 16 to 25 support their friends during tough times.

#FriendBetter with R U OK? has been informed by the Connecting Young Australians report, which sought to understand the barriers to providing support for young people. It found that seven in ten Australians aged 12-25 years don't ask for help when they're going through a difficult time. However, a corresponding 70% are willing to engage in in-person conversations with a trusted, close friend, rather than a family member or in a group setting with friends.

The campaign provides tips and tools for young people to help support their friends dealing with life’s challenges. Young people can access information that provides examples of everyday friends having conversations and guides them in responding to and navigating these conversations. Real-life examples such as exam and study pressure, family problems and other issues facing young people are available for users.
