Professor Andrea Lamont-Mills
PhD
Professor Andrea Lamont-Mills is leading a mixed methods research program investigating keeping people safe online. Program focus is on those who have survived a suicide attempt as survivors are often an overlooked population for suicide research, yet they are one of the groups at elevated risk of taking their own life. The team is particularly interested in who uses the internet for suicide-related reasons, why do they go online, and critically how do users and moderators identify those at risk and work to keep people safe online. The team approaches this how from a conversation analysis and discursive psychology framework which is unique in suicidology research. Professor Andrea Lamont-Mills also leading a second mixed methods research program exploring the relationship between sport participation, suicidal thoughts/behaviours, and wellbeing. Currently the team's focus is on middle-aged athletes, particularly menopausal women.
