Cool Connections in School
The Cool Connections program aims to increase confidence, enhance social skills and develop a sense of connectedness for primary school aged children who experience issues such as social withdrawal, anxiety or difficulties with peer relationships.
The program is delivered within primary schools with participating students selected by school teachers based on the criteria that they are experiencing issues such as social withdrawal, anxiety or difficulties with peer relationships. The program consists of 8 sessions, 1.5 hours each are delivered by 2 facilitators from Iris Foundation. The school also provides a support teacher. The program covers topics such as recognition of emotions in self and others, recognising strengths, conversational skills, problem solving, safe people and safe places, the impact of compliments and criticism and relaxation techniques.
Strategies utilised include creating individual and group visual storytelling, journaling, group activities and conversations.
