One of the most important parts of suicide prevention is collaboration across the sector and to assist in achieving this, the Life in Mind team often travels to attend events and conferences.
Everymind Suicide Prevention Project Lead Simon Pont is in Western Australia this week attending two important events which delve into the complexity of suicide prevention strategies for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders and Indigenous people internationally.
The second National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Conference is being held in Scarborough, Western Australia and running from Tuesday 20 November through to Wednesday 21 November, 2018.
The event, which features a range of speakers and plenary sessions which focus on topics such as community partnerships, lived experience, community based solutions, youth and cultural practices.
According to Everymind Suicide Prevention Project Lead Simon Pont, attending events such as the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Conference provide an excellent opportunity for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
“Life in Mind is a national initiative that connects Australian suicide prevention services and programs to each other and the community,” He said.
“It provides a platform for knowledge exchange surrounding suicide prevention, as well as sector leadership through collaboration and engagement.
“Events such as this one provide an opportunity for stakeholders who deliver suicide prevention services to connect and explore ways to collaborate and learn from each other.”
The second World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference is an international event which will also be held in Scarborough, from Thursday 22 November until Friday 23 November, 2018.
This event will bring together attendees from indigenous nations throughout the globe to meet and contribute to discussion around indigenous led suicide prevention strategies.
By providing a forum for knowledge sharing and collaboration, the event aims to empower and enhance community participation in indigenous suicide prevention activities now and into the future.
To participate in online discussion during both events, Life in Mind encourages stakeholders to use the #ATSISPC18 hashtag while at the second National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Conference or the #WISPC18 for The second World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference.
